Humpbacks Spared – For Now….

Humpback Whales in Grave Danger

1,000 fin and minke whales to be killed. International protests mount to stop whaling

Under intense international pressure the Japanese government has announced that Japan has abandoned its plans to kill humpback whales in the Southern Ocean this season. However, under the guise of “scientific research” Japan has resumed hunting endangered fin whales and minke whales and plans to kill 1,000 whales. International protests headed by Australia are mounting. Shamefully, the United States has refused to participate in the demarche signed by 29 nations including the European Union.

Help Keep Blue Voice In The Field

Our video report from Taiji has now received 357,000 YouTube views. Within the last month there have been articles on the dolphin hunt in The Washington Post, Japan Times, Reuters and CBS News. This kind of exposure is what will end the killing. You can view this video at YouTube. Please forward it to your friends.

The fishermen at Taiji have permits to kill two-thousand dolphins. They tell us “You must stop taking pictures of this. If you put this on television or the internet the world will condemn Japan and the fisheries agency will withdraw our permit.”

This is just what we intend to do – to transmit these images around the world and keep transmitting them. The pressure on Taiji is growing. Our films on PBS and National Geographic and our recent interview on CBS News have created an avalanche of protest. BUT WE NEED TO DO MORE. We need to keep the pressure on. In Japan, government agencies are debating this issue at the highest levels. TO STOP THE KILLING we must let them know the world is watching every day.
Help Keep Blue Voice In The Field

We are now in Japan and will soon upload images of the atrocities taking place here in Taiji. The fishermen hate this. They literally beg us to stop. Obviously we won’t – until they stop the killing.

Japanese fishermen kill 20 thousand dolphins a year to sell as meat which is highly contaminated with mercury and other toxins. The dolphin captivity industry promotes dolphin slaughters by paying fishermen to capture dolphins. Those not selected for a lifetime in captivity are slaughtered.
