Introduction

November 7 , 2007 - Taiji Dolphin transported to a life in captivity
By Hardy Jones

This is Hardy Jones reporting from Taiji again. This is a very busy day here suddenly. A truck has pulled up. It is a dolphin transporter truck. And we have observed them bringing so far one it look like a pseudorca (false killer whale) out of the Taiji Whale Museum aquarium area and they brought it up the hill in a truck and put it in the back of this large carrier truck. I don’t know the destination of  the dolphin, but this dolphin is headed for a tank someplace in Asia. It is an indication of the connection between the drive slaughters, the killing of the dolphins and the captivity industry. The best and most beautiful of the dolphins that are captured are taken into captivity and then they are sold.  The demand from China is enormous right now. The captivity part of it is really what sustains the killing, not the killing for meat. Because the meat is very cheap, there is less and less demand for it, but there is more and more demand for the dolphins. And that’s what keeps those boats going out and that’s what keeps the dolphins being slaughtered.
